Each of our clients are unique. They each come with their own struggles, concerns, and triumphs. No matter what their background or their choice, RealOptions lovingly supports them through their entire process. Here are some true stories from our clients.
Monika* came up after the RealTalk presentation...
RealTalk is the newly rebranded prevention arm of RealOptions going into the schools and community. It educates and equips students and the community using science and logic to choose healthy lifestyles. Directed by Jennifer Langdon, the program is making a huge impact in the lives of students across the county. The presentation provides life-changing information, but the stories the students tell our presenters after the program show how much students of today need to be informed about the truth of sex, STDs, and self-respect.
Monika* came up after the presentation and took RealTalk Director, Jennifer aside and explained: "You know where you told us about how people abused you when you were young so you started looking for love in all the wrong places? Well, that's my story and I can't stop. My step-father molested me when I was younger and now I just keep dating all kinds of guys. I know I shouldn't but I don't know how to stop." Monika pointed at her best friend and got her into the conversation. "Kelly* - she knows I get into trouble and she tries to help me. She just pulled this guy off me when he was trying to do things to me." As Jennifer explained how all three girls were beautiful on the inside and outside and worthy of being treated with kindness and love, they just looked at her like they had never heard that before. In the remaining few minutes she was able to encourage Monika and her friends to protect their hearts and bodies, to say "No", and to tell guys that they want to "wait”.
Jennifer told Monika she needed to focus on her education, sports, and filling her life with valuable things, not relationships with guys. She handed them RealOptions flyers and encouraged them to call if they wanted to talk or if they got into any trouble.
A few days later, Jennifer visited the Oak Grove High School campus to attend a Nick Vijucic anti-bullying rally and ran into Monika. She is now signed up for independent studies because being on campus around everybody was too much for her. Jennifer affirmed that her decision would probably help disengage her from some of the drama and encouraged her to stay strong. Jennifer gave Monika the flyer to attend a free rally at Cathedral of Faith to hear Nick Vijucic speak that night. Monika said it was close to her house and she would try to go.
We don’t know if Monika went, but we do know she was listening when Jennifer told her to focus on her education - and not on dating relationships!
